Frequently Asked Questions
“Therapy isn’t about me leading the way; it’s about walking alongside you, providing support and guidance as you discover your own path to growth, healing, and balance.” Charlene McCleoud, LCSW
1. What can I expect during my first session?
Your first session is an opportunity for us to connect with you. We’ll discuss what brought you to therapy, explore your current challenges, and talk about your goals. I’ll create a safe, non-judgmental space where you can feel heard and understood.
2. How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure how to manage your thoughts, emotions, or daily life, therapy can help. Even if you’re looking for guidance or support, therapy is a space to explore yourself, your patterns, and ways to feel more balanced and empowered.
3. How long does therapy usually last?
It depends on your goals. Some clients benefit from short-term therapy (6–10 sessions) to work through a specific issue, while others prefer longer-term support. We’ll discuss what fits your needs and adjust as we go.
4. Can therapy help with stress, anxiety, or depression?
Absolutely. Therapy is a supportive space to understand your experiences, identify patterns, and learn strategies to manage stress, anxiety, depression, or other challenges. You don’t have to face these feelings alone.
5. Do you provide support for parenting, relationships, or family challenges?
Yes. Parenting, relationships, and family dynamics can be both rewarding and stressful. I provide guidance and practical tools to navigate these challenges while honoring your unique experiences and emotions.
6. Is your practice culturally sensitive?
Yes. I understand the impact of racial identity, oppression, and cultural experiences on mental health. My practice is a safe and inclusive space where your culture, values, and experiences are honored and integrated into our therapy.
7. How do I know if we’re a good fit?
Therapy is most effective when you feel safe, heard, and understood. If you resonate with my approach and values, that’s a good start. We’ll also use an initial consultation to discuss your needs and ensure this is the right space for you.
8. What if I’ve never been to therapy before?
That’s completely okay. Many clients are new to therapy. I guide you through the process in a supportive, approachable way, helping you feel comfortable, safe, and empowered from the very first session.
9. How do I schedule a session or consultation?
Please feel free to use the form on my website to share your experiences and schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation. During this time, we’ll discuss your needs and the next steps toward support and growth.
10. What if I don’t know what my goals for therapy are?
That’s okay. Part of therapy is exploring what’s important to you and identifying goals together. You don’t have to have all the answers before you begin.
11. How often are sessions scheduled?
Most clients meet weekly; however, we can adjust the schedule to accommodate your needs and availability. The goal is consistency that supports growth without feeling overwhelming.
12. What makes your approach to therapy unique?
My approach is warm, client-centered, and culturally sensitive, with practical tools tailored to your needs. I walk alongside you, not in front, because this is your journey. My goal is to create a safe and collaborative space where you feel seen, heard, and fully supported as you navigate your path toward growth and healing.
13. Can therapy help me with work-life balance or stress management?
Yes. We can explore your routines, identify stressors, and develop practical strategies to help you feel more in control and balanced in both your work and personal life.
